Once two rats stole a piece of bread from a nearby shop. But they could not divide the bread equally between them. Therefore, each demanded the heavier piece. The result was a dispute between them. “We should go to the monkey for a solution,” one of the rats said. “He is the wisest of all animals.” Meeting the monkey, they requested him to divide the bread equally. Monkey replied that it would be better for them to divide the bread by themselves. Otherwise, it would be expensive for them. But they requested him again. The monkey then brought a pair of scales. He tore off the bread into two parts and put them on the scale. But one piece was heavier than the other. He took a bit from the heavier portion. The lighter piece became heavier then. He took a bite from it. This process continued until there remain only one portion. “It’s enough,” one of the rats said desperately. “We ourselves will divide the bread.” “But I have spent much time in it,” he replied. “I should be given the payment.” He then quickly put the remaining piece of bread into his mouth. Two rats left the place sadly.
